***** Originally titled "Brian Wilson Loves You"....this was Brian's true comeback album (unlike 1976's proclaimed come back album "15 Big Ones") as an artist, composer, musician etc....Brian wrote and produced all 14 tracks.

Yes he was back.... but in a very different way....being the artist that he is. This is no step back to the glory years, this is a weird & quirky little gem that evokes where Brian's head space was at.

The use of synth and basic drum and bass underpin a lot of the albums sounds to great effect...they just seem to match Brian's unconventional lyrics perfectly. Highlights include "The Night Was So Young", "Love Is A Woman", "Let Us Go On This Way", "Johnny Carson", "I Wanna Pick You Up" & "Airplane"....along with the 1970 "Sunflower" album outtake "Good Time" which fits on the album beautifully considering it's 7 year gap between composition.

Unfortunately after the albums release and US tour of 1978 Brian slipped away again into the abyss of drug, alcohol and junk food abuse....only to play a minor role in the band until 1985.
Last edited: 21.10.2013 10:52 |
