*** This album is The Beach Boys only in title, Dennis and Carl where virtually absent for the entire sessions (which took place at M.I.U., a transcendental meditation university in Iowa, USA. Hence the album title.) recording their own solo projects and Brian's efforts where at a bare minimum.

So that left Mike Love and Al Jardine to run the show....and it shows....from below par covers "Peggy Sue" & "Come Go With Me" too horrible Mike Love nostalgic compositions such as "Kona Coast".

The only thing that saves this album from death is a couple of Brian penned tracks that had some involvement from him...."Pitter Patter" (best track on the album), "My Diane" (sung by Dennis) and the quirky "Match Point Of Our Love" (a song about love in tennis terms). He's other track "She's Got Rhythm" is catchy, yet Brian's voice is so stained and nearly forced (a far cry from he's beautiful angelic voice of the 60's) that the track suffers.

This is the band at a low point in there career both artistically and as a functioning group. |
