***** Father John Misty habitually gives off a pretentious vibe that's both completely played straight in this song, but also completely isn't. What I mean is that this song completely plays into his persona, but it's surprisingly down to earth. That's partially helped by its composition which is very simple and pleasant, complete with a cathartic climax on the bridge. With more general lyrics, it could sound like a hit song.

The lyrics are where the song really shines though. Every time I listen to this song, it warrants a dumb grin out of me because it does well to subvert conventions by laser focusing on a certain sub-group of people that really connects to me. What could be a song about existential dread...well I mean it is that, but what could be as gloomy as that implies, avoids it because of how light-hearted it is. The idea of someone on the verge of death and still habitually refreshing their news feed just cracks me up.
